Christmas Time at the Cottage

rose covered cottage christmas

Something about this time of year that’s just plain cozy. I love to be home and enjoy the lights and trees so I like to decorate early so it’s not all so rushed. My favorite trees are flocked, so they are frosted or sprinkled with a bit of fake snow. That slight snow-covered look goes easily with the color palette I love all year. I tend to stick with my palette in our main living area.

I’ve collected vintage ornaments for years, so our main tree in the living room is filled with those along with some vintage garland and gold tinsel. An easy centerpiece in any room is a big bowl filled with ornaments in similar colors, I love to place bowls filled with ornaments all over the house for some extra sparkle.

I love the smell of fresh greenery so I’m a big fan of eucalyptus- when it dries it’s still beautiful and smells so good. I mix it in on my mantle with faux greenery. I like to add a few faux flowers tucked in here and there and some candles in different heights. The mantle is definitely my favorite place to play and change up.

On the stairwell, I do faux greenery and tuck some real in to keep it full and smelling good. Wreaths are hung on mirrors with simple suction cups.

In the kitchen, I stick with lots of greenery, some vintage ornaments tucked in, and a fresh wreath on my favorite mirror. That’s really all that’s needed to get that cozy factor.

Trees seem to pop up more each year, so we have a little one in the master for that cozy glow on long winter days. My kids each have one and we love to get out the ornaments they made when they were little and cherish those every year. It’s all about feelings and memories with loved ones so decorating early gives us more time to slow our pace and truly cherish the days.

Happy decorating xx Lindsey
